Her name is Baby...

For the last several months, it has become obvious that Landry has an imaginary friend. To be honest, it has really freaked me out! We first discovered her "other half," as I have called it, when she would be upset. She would be crying (hard crying, like sobbing) and then would immediately stop and say, "Oh no, whas wrong?"
Then hysterically crying, "They hurr (hurt) me!"
Back to completely calm, "Oh no, let me kiss it."
Crying again, "Okay..."
Completely calm, "There you go." (kissing noise)
Then she would be fine and would go off to play. (Insert scary X-Files music here.) Since then I have noticed her talking to the "other half" quite a bit. They play and talk as though there is another person there. She changes voices and facial expressions - it really has been strange.
Last night she was sitting in my lap and we were talking to Dad. She started in with her "other half" bit and Dad started asking her who she was playing with. For the first time, she pointed to her belly and said, "Baby." Then she went back to talking to "Baby." (insert shiver. I really thought that maybe she was strange, but not really playing with someone!) When "Baby" talks, she has lots of baby sounds and fake cries, but they both seem to be having fun playing and talking. So strange...
Baby better play nice!

Whew! What a week!

We have started back to school and this week has been an adventure! We have finished our first full week back and think that we all deserve a round of applause. Here was our first morning and I am proud to report that we made it on time and should say, early. Dad drove with us and got to walk the kids to their rooms. Grace is in 4th grade this year. Gibson is in 1st and Hayden has started prek. Landry is all alone at the sitter with her friends. Time is flying very fast! Hayden has been telling everyone that he gets to come to school because he's potty trained and wears underwear.

I found Landry like this in the living room after our first day. I think that says it all! I forget how hard, fast and busy our school schedule is. It will take us a little adjusting to get used to this again.

Always something...

Well, I was told today that I haven't posted anything interesting (meaning nuts or crazy) about my kids in awhile, so I thought maybe I should get right on that! From pictures of my last post, all of my spare time lately has been making cards. (As one of my good friends was laughing with me the other day, I'm about to be making cards in the middle of the night!) But never fear, just because I haven't put anything up, doesn't mean that it's not happening.

Yesterday morning, Landry was up before the rest of the kids and got to hang out with Dad while he was getting ready for work. He brushed his teeth and shaved and did all of his manly grooming. (Who are we kidding, that was it!) Landry was right there in the middle of all of it. After he left, I was in the other room sorting clothes, (story of my life these days) and heard her start to cry. I walked in on her trying to hurry and put the razor back from where she got it and rubbing her lip while moaning and crying "owee, owee..." She had gone in there and tried to shave like she saw Dad doing earlier, except that she took a chunk out of the top of her lip. She finally stopped crying, but there's not much that you can do for a cut right there. I gave her a little Motrin and tried to put some Neosporin on it, but it was sore for the rest of the day. Thankfully, there were no attempts at shaving today!

Chainsaw Sharks

My nature and animal-loving son has fallen in love with the Discovery channel and specifically all things "Shark Week." We have watched it all this week at bedtime and first thing in the morning. Since we have been home some today, we have further fed the shark hunger. Gib was asking Dad earlier about future programs and kinds of sharks. He said, "When are they going to show those chainsaw sharks? We have seen the hammer head sharks and the sword sharks, but I haven't seen any chainsaws yet."
buuzzzzz... I can hear them coming now...

Nursery Rhyme Rappers

Every year, my kids love day camp. They have tons of activities and opportunities to keep them busy, over what can sometimes be a long summer. Part of the fun is a camp wide talent show, with the winner competing at a city wide talent show, against all of the other community centers. Gibson's class competed with their act, "The Nursery Rhyme Rappers" and represented Greenbriar at the city wide contest. They were cute and represented well!

Shark Week 2010

Shark Week is here. Gibson could not be more excited. Last night we turned on the first program and all I heard was:
"Wow!"
"Awesome!"
"That is so cool!"
"Can we have a pet shark?!"
"I promise I'll take really good care of it!"
"We could get a little bitty baby one and put it next to the turtles!"
He decided to stay home from camp today and has been camped out watching divers swim with sharks and narrowly escaping death. He did decide that when he grows up he wants to "be one of those guys" but he's going to be the guy in the boat. He said he wasn't getting in the water. That's my boy!
