Keep it in your head!

On the way to nap, Gib started singing the theme song from a tv show that they have watched this summer. Hayden took one look at him from the top of the stairs and said in his most grown up voice, "Gibson, you just stop it right there. Keep that song in your head because I don't want it in mine!"

Sprinkles, Frosting and Cake!

During the school year, we treat ourselves to donuts every Friday morning. It's our little reward for having made it to the end of another week. This summer, we haven't missed the donuts much, but every now and then, someone will mention that it has been awhile since we have had a donut and we will have to go and get one. One morning, the donuts were mentioned, and I had the bright idea to just make cupcakes instead. The dietary value is the same. :)

I got Grace in the kitchen and she made the batter for the cupcakes and we put them in the oven. Then we made frosting and pulled out the sprinkles. I gave each kid a cake, a little bowl of frosting and a butter knife to spread their frosting and we were off. It made for a fun morning.

No he didn't!

We were at Sam's yesterday and I had Landry and Hayden riding in the basket while the other two walked. We were pushing up one of the aisles when Hayden started hollering (because he doesn't say anything at a normal level) "Watch out Mom! That old man is going to run over us with that cart!"

I immediately tried to shush him, all the while hoping that the old man was hard of hearing as well. As I was trying to hush Hayden I was telling him that we don't call people old. He immediately hollered back, "Why?! He IS old!"

I was giving up and trying to push past the man as fast as we could go. Hayden wasn't going to give it a rest. As we rushed past, he screamed one last time, "I hope that when I'm old I get to ride in one of those carts!"

As I've said before, there are no words...

Calling All Mice!

We finished dinner and Landry had a chocolate chip cookie for dessert. I thought that she finished it...
Time for bedtime. We start up the stairs and she starts telling me she has to get her cookie. I told her that we were done and were going to bed. She runs past her room to the bathroom. I followed and came in the doorway as she was pulling the clothes hamper from the corner, picked up a half eaten cookie off the floor, took a bite, put the cookie and hamper back and then ran to her bed. I tucked her in and went back to the bathroom. She had not one, but two cookies in that corner. If the world ever comes to an end, I'm sticking with her. In the meantime, I am trying, desperately, to keep my house free of mice.

A Perfect 4th

For the 4th of July weekend, we had a wonderful weekend. Our friends, the Taylors, came from Fort Worth and joined us for a lot of fun. We kicked off the weekend with a trip to Discovery Green and showed them around one of our new finds. There was a dock dog show going on for the weekend and we were able to watch the dogs jump off of a dock into the water after either a ball or some other trapeze-looking thing. The kids were all about the dogs and ice cream.

Sunday we took off for the beach. I have decided that this may well be my favorite place in the world. I get just as excited as the kids.
Shane was humoring me...
Our older two rode with the Taylors. Our younger two were the perfect travelers.
I love to see our littles get excited!
We headed out to our new favorite beach spot, near Surfside and hit the ground running. Sea breezes and salty air hit us as soon as we stepped out of the car.

We jumped through lots of waves and found lots of sea life. Brown pelicans were diving from the sky into the water after lots of fish, a jellyfish floated in on a wave (there was lots of jumping to get away from that!), little minnows were swimming around our feet. This baby hammerhead shark washed up in a wave and was tangled in someone's trot line. We found some pliers to pull out the hook and untangle him, but unfortunately, he didn't make it.
We all got to touch him. Talk about an educational lesson. I have touched a shark! They feel very sand-papery. It was a pretty great afternoon!
This was put together for the kids this weekend and they are loving it! It's in the shade and it has been played on non-stop.
We even ate dinner out there.
No 4th of July weekend would be complete without fireworks! I am completely ridiculous in my love of fireworks. I think that it may be possible for me to like them more than the kids. Shane and his staff were in charge of putting together the firework show and activities, so we met him at the park. They put on a great show. The kids bounced in bounce houses and this little flippy thing while we were waiting for dark. Of course there were funnel cakes, kettle corn and snow cones. After all that, I was more than ready for us to settle down on the blankets.
These were a perfect end to a great weekend!

Uh-Oh

We had a wonderful 4th of July weekend and I am in the process of getting pictures ready to go up later.

Yesterday, in the middle of all of our fun, Landry ate at least 20 strawberries. I wish that I was exaggerating the number...but...sigh. In case anyone wanted to know, yes, that will upset a person's stomach. We are paying for it today.

She keeps coming to me holding her nose and saying (because she has multiple personalities and talks about herself in third person),

"Momma, Landry has a stinky diaper!"

Note to self, do not let your kids have unlimited fruit! You'd think after the fourth kid that I would finally be learning a couple of these lessons. :)
