Summer fun

Gib was grooving in the car. :)

I haven't posted much lately, but that doesn't mean that it has been quiet around here. :) We have been busy having adventures and fun and relaxing before our school year kicks in again. Gibson spent a week of afternoons at a Lego camp where they built different bugs, cars, etc. and then put motors into their creations. He had a blast and it was really fun to see all of his creations come to life.

Grace has taken a break from gymnastics for a little while and went to a cookie making class and a duct tape class. At the duct tape class they have made wallets, flip-flops, and flowers out of different colors of tape. She has had a lot of fun discovering a new hobby.

We have been out and about discovering our new area. Discovery Green is an innovative, privatized park in downtown Houston. It is greenspace set in the heart of the downtown with beautiful gardens, lawns for picnicking, a stage for outdoor concerts and other community events, a playground for kids along with a splash area and dog runs. The other unique aspect of the park is that they are programming the area all the time. Any day of the week they have zumba and yoga classes, story times for toddlers, horseshoe tournaments, movies on the lawn, etc. It is very community oriented and all of the staff were extremely helpful and very proud of their park. It was fun to experience.

Shane is busy programming his own recreation activities and we went out and participated in one of his events, The Recreation Road Show. He and his staff have gone to a different park every week and run various events for the kids and their families that are there. It is very informal and is open to whoever shows up. They set up archery, crafts, scavenger hunts, science experiments, healthy snacks and different games.
A big stamp of approval!
We have been beating the heat by playing and swimming in the mornings or at night and staying inside in the afternoons.
We were getting ready to go for a family walk and Landry came out like this. She had on bloomers from one of her dresses, a t-shirt, her tennis shoes and a pair of goggles. She did pose with one hand on her hip, but I missed it and she wouldn't do it again. :)
Jones made the move with us and he does lots of this. He likes the cool tile and lives for coming in the house and lounging on the floor. I can't blame him. There are days when I feel like lying on the cool tile myself! :)
